Feedback on Early Years Foundation Stage briefings
In March 2008 Ofsted hosted a series of briefings across the country to share information with representatives from 150 local authorities about changes to how Ofsted will regulate early years and childcare.
From September 2008 there will be two registers, the Early Years Register and the Childcare Register.
Delegates heard about how Ofsted will register and inspect providers on the registers, how it will monitor and improve provision, and the proposed new self-evaluation form for providers delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
The EYFS is the new statutory framework for the education and welfare of children from birth to the 31 August following their fifth birthday.
The EYFS has removed the distinction between care and education for early years, and all providers on the Early Years Register will need to meet the welfare, learning and development requirements. Providers have been given information packs to explain how they can meet the requirements of the EYFS.
