May 2008 Edition

Editor's highlights

This edition features consultations, provider profiles and the latest news across all sectors. The current school inspection cycle, with its successful emphasis on 'lighter touch' inspections, self assessment, and shorter notice, ends next year and we’re seeking views on proposals for a new schools inspection framework which will replace it. You can read the consultation by following the links in the schools focus section.

One way to keep abreast of developments is to use the following link to our ‘calendar of future consultations’.

Childcare inspector Amanda Tyson gives us a glimpse into the world of nursery inspection and tells us what she looks for on her visits, using her inspection of Ladybird Nursery in London as an example.

Read about Lite Ltd in the North West of England; the only training organisation in animal and veterinary care to be judged outstanding. And discover why Shirle Hill Hospital School in Sheffield received an outstanding accolade for its work with pupils with acute or severe emotional and behavioural difficulties.

We bring details of reports by the Children’s Rights Director who’s spoken to parents of children in social care and sought children’s views on advocacy. And we feature details of other Ofsted reports such as how to encourage young people to be financially aware, and the progress schools are making in meeting the expectations identified in the sustainable schools framework.
